Your weekly dose of Alluviance!
I’ve called it preparation a lot of times when it was really control.
Refreshing the notes again.
Reworking the agenda.
Trying to map every possible objection before the call even starts.
And listen, I believe in preparation.
I believe in craft.
I believe in showing up ready.
But I also know the feeling when readiness turns into gripping.
My chest gets tight.
My mind starts moving fast.
I’m not preparing from clarity anymore.
I’m trying to make sure nothing can surprise me.
Which is adorable, honestly.
Because sales will humble that version of you fast.
And the part of you that wanted control starts freaking out under the table.
I know that part of me very well.
Trying to sound certain.
Trying to get the conversation back on the track I had planned.
Trying to force life to match the little movie I had already made in my head.
That is an exhausting way to sell.
It is also an exhausting way to lead.
Because control usually convinces us it is serving the work.
It says:
I’m just being responsible.
I’m just holding a high standard.
I’m just making sure we don’t miss.
And sometimes that’s true.
Sometimes, I’m just scared and trying to control my way out of it.
And people can feel it.
Your body can feel when your ambition has turned into bracing.
That’s the real work for me.
Learning the difference between clean preparation and fear trying to buy certainty.
Because underneath the control is usually something much more tender.
A fear.
And that’s the part that needs our attention.
What am I actually afraid of right now?
What am I trying to prevent myself from feeling?
Can I prepare deeply and still stay open?
That's the work my friends.
Know your craft.
Build the plan.
Then walk into the room with enough trust in yourself to let the plan breathe.
Because the goal is not to control every moment.
The goal is to be present enough to meet the moment that actually arrives.
And that is where real mastery lives.

For the last 12 months, we've been quietly building something we'd been craving as sellers. A podcast that gets into sales, entrepreneurship, dating, spirituality, and the things most of us don't say online.
It's called Sales Was Just The Start.
