Your weekly dose of Alluviance!
At Alluviance, we believe elevating your game as a sales professional demands a dual focus: mastering the craft of sales and cultivating your inner game. It's never an either/or. It’s always a both/and.
This week and next, we’re diving into a powerful concept: Selling in the Zone. Today, we’re focusing on the craft side of the equation. Next week, we’ll explore the inner game arena of this, unlocking even deeper connection and impact.
Ever feel like you’re stuck on a sales performance treadmill?
Deck polished to the max. Script on repeat in your sleep. Walking in, hitting play, and narrating slides. I did it at Microsoft. Thought it meant flawless delivery, unshakeable control. The deck wasn’t just a tool. It was my shield.
But that shield was a wall. It kept me from truly connecting. From listening. From the messy, human part of selling. Every call felt like a performance, and I was tired of playing the part.
So, I took a risk. Walked into meetings with just a whiteboard and a marker. No slides. No script. Just one question: “What matters most to you today?”
The shift was immediate. I stopped selling to them and started solving with them. The conversation wasn’t about my agenda. It was about theirs. We mapped problems. We drew ideas. We had real, dynamic conversations.
This is what we mean by Selling in the Zone.
When you ditch the act, when you lower that "professional" armor, powerful things happen:
Vulnerability Breeds Authenticity: Showing up without defenses signals you’re not there to posture. You’re there to be real. That authenticity is magnetic.
Presence Becomes Your Superpower: Without relying on a script, you’re forced to be utterly present. To listen with your whole being. People feel that undivided attention.
Their World Takes Center Stage: That single question – "What matters most to you today?" – instantly communicates respect. It says, "Your priorities are what we’re here to talk about."
Genuine trust isn’t built through a flawless pitch. It’s invited through raw, human presence.
And once that trust is there? That’s when the flow ignites.
You know that state, right? Where the conversation just works. Ideas bounce effortlessly. Solutions emerge organically. You’re so immersed, time melts away. You’re not selling. You’re co-creating. You're in the zone, together.
This isn't just about feeling good. Selling in this zone of trust and flow leads to:
Deeper understanding of client needs.
Solutions that stick because they’re co-owned.
Relationships that become genuine partnerships.
More impactful, sustainable wins.
The biggest win? You ditch the draining performance and step into an authentic way of selling that’s energizing, fulfilling, and even joyful.
So, what about you? What’s one small step you could take this week to ditch a part of the routine and invite more trust, more flow into your conversations?

Back in December, I met an Account Executive on a PIP unsure how he was going to make ends meet. He had the skills, but like so many high performers who hit a rough patch, he was carrying the weight of self-doubt and burnout....

"It's through vulnerability that human beings create connections. The more vulnerable we can be with one another, the more that we'll trust one another and the more we'll be able to collaborate effectively." – Neil Blumenthal
