A few weeks back, I sent an email about the science of vocal stress, The 60‑Second Biohack Your Pipeline Needs, on how a prospect’s threat radar can pick up the micro-quivers in your voice in the first half-second of a call.
That one blew up my inbox.
It's clear y'all are as fascinated by the why behind performance as I am. So let's go one level deeper down the rabbit hole.
WHY does a prospect’s nervous system react so instantly to yours? The answer is one of the most powerful and slightly terrifying parts of human biology: Mirror Neurons.
In simple terms, these are the “monkey see, monkey do” cells in your brain. They fire when you perform an action, but they also fire when you simply watch someone else perform that same action. It’s why you flinch when you see an athlete get injured, or why you might feel the urge to yawn just from reading the word.
But here’s the kicker: it’s not just for physical actions. It’s for emotions too.
Scientists call it Emotional Contagion.
When you walk into a sales call feeling anxious, rushed, or desperate for the deal, your body is broadcasting that state. Your posture tightens. Your breathing gets shallow. Your facial muscles make expressions you're not even aware of.
The prospect’s mirror neurons pick up on these signals instantly and subconsciously. Their brain, without their permission, begins to mirror your internal state.
They literally catch your anxiety.
Suddenly, they feel guarded. Uneasy. A little defensive. They can’t put their finger on why, but the “vibe just feels off.” The room for trust has vanished before you even get to slide two.
This is why you can have the perfect script and still lose the deal. You can’t use a clever line to override a nervous system on high alert.
You can't hide your internal state. You broadcast it.
The only way to create true connection and trust is to change the signal at the source. To show up grounded, clear, and calm from the inside out.
So think about your last call that felt "off." Were you broadcasting calm, or were they catching your chaos?
P.S. It's been incredible to watch the Inner Game Masterclass seats fill. We're now over 125 people registered and the doors are closing soon. Don't say we didn't warn you! |

The best sales tool I’ve ever used wasn’t Gong or Outreach. It was something way simpler that I'd shared with almost every rep I managed, especially before a make or beak meeting.
