Weekly Alluviance #86: Discovering the Spiritual Side of Leadership

What if leadership isn’t just about managing people to achieving better results or climbing the ladder to get that next raise and promotion?

What if it was about inspiring others to rise and driving a vision that aligns with your higher purpose?

It's taboo to talk about spirituality when it comes to sales and leadership, right? Well, too bad. We've been doing it since the 4th newsletter that we've ever published back in February of 2023 and have continued to do so ever since.

Leadership, in its traditional sense, is often about achieving tangible results, hitting targets, and managing people. But, if we’re honest, that approach only scratches the surface of what it really means to lead. True leadership doesn’t just happen in spreadsheets, boardrooms, or performance reviews. It happens deep within.

Enter the spiritual side of leadership.

Spiritual leadership goes beyond external metrics. It’s about aligning your actions, decisions, and interactions with a higher purpose. It’s about connecting your leadership journey to something bigger than yourself.

When we lead from spirit, we shift from being transactional leaders, focused on output and results, to being transformational leaders, focused on meaning, impact, and service.

At its core, spiritual leadership is about purpose -- leading with meaning and heart. It’s the understanding that leadership isn’t just about you. It’s about those you serve, the people you influence, and the ripple effect of your decisions on the world around you. When you lead with purpose, you draw people toward something greater than individual ambitions. You lead them toward a shared mission.

The magic of spiritual leadership lies in serving others: team, culture, clients and prospects, the even the entire marketplace. When you lead from a place of service, your goal is not just to achieve outcomes but to uplift, support, and empower those around you.

This is what we mean when we use the term Essence Based Leadership. It's guiding people to become their best, while pushing yourself to express the highest version of your own leadership.

So, why does the spiritual side of leadership matter? Because you are bringing your whole self into your leadership and inviting others to do the same. It’s not about using authority to get people to do things; it’s about serving the higher purpose within you. You’re no longer the person at the top, but the force that helps everyone rise.

In the world of sales, business, and beyond, this kind of leadership creates lasting change, drives innovation, and builds real connections. And that is where leadership becomes truly spiritual.

So, how are you showing up as a leader today? Is your leadership aligned with a greater purpose, or is it stuck in the pursuit of personal ambition?
