Weekly Alluviance #32: Where's the pain?
YOUR WEEKLY DOSE OF ALLUVIANCE!
Sales professionals excel at identifying pain, usually in the form of connecting their product to a critical pain point of their prospects. But today, we're shifting our focus to a different kind of pain.
When was the last time you received feedback that felt like a sharp, direct slap to the face?
We're biologically programmed to sidestep pain. Being in sales, our skills in the world of influence can help us dodge more than our fair share. So, I ask you again: When did you last feel the pain from critical feedback? Because, let's be clear, it exists. You're either confronting it head-on or it's whispered behind your back.
The Alluviant Leader actively seeks out that feedback, ready to face it directly. Because once you're aware of the feedback, you're able to act on it, refine yourself, and grow.
Don't go running around picking fights just to get punched in the face, but don't you dare run and hide from it either. Embrace the potential growth moments despite your biological desire to do the opposite.
Here's your assignment for the week: Reflect on the last piece of feedback that genuinely stung. When was it, and how did you react? If it's a distant memory or if it's completely slipped your mind, that says something. If you've not taken massive action after receiving that feedback, that says something as well. And, if the feedback is fresh and you're already working on it, good for you, but you have extra credit work this week :) Offer someone the kind of constructive criticism you've hesitated to share.
Let's support each other as we collectively make upgrades.
