Weekly Alluviance #82: What Alignment is NOT

Your weekly dose of Alluviance!

Last week we spoke about finding your alignment in sales, and I know the story about the perfect swing landed for many of you. It sure did for me. But now we're talking about the opposite end of the spectrum.

This week, we're talking about what alignment in sales is NOT.

At Alluviance we are committed to the deep inner work on the path to mastery, and we don't gloss over the hard stuff. Some will try to convince you that if you are in alignment with your vision everything will be sunshine and rainbows all day, every day. That's just not the case. That's delusional.

You can be in alignment with your vision, and still be a human too. In fact, it's required.

You are allowed to have bad days. You are allowed to be sad, angry, tired, upset. If you're sad, be sad. If you're angry, be angry.

Here is what alignment in sales is not:

  • Faking it: anyone who tells you to "fake it til you make it" is also probably being very inauthentic. Be authentic

  • Forcing things: the used-car-salesmen approach to forcing outcomes that relies on manipulation and deception. Be genuine.

  • Avoiding conflict: people pleasing and self-abandonment to not "rock the boat." Be courageous.

  • Ignoring reality: pretending like challenge and setbacks and difficulties don't exist. Be honest.

  • Perfection: because I am in alignment with my vision, everything will go my way all the time. Be resilient.

Alignment in sales doesn't mean that all your problems magically disappear or that every day will be smooth sailing. What alignment does provide is the foundation to navigate those inevitable challenges with authenticity, resilience, and integrity. It gives you the strength to be real, to face obstacles head-on, and to stay true to yourself even when things don't go your way. It allows you to tap into that flow we discussed last week.

I know some of you struggle with finding alignment with your vision and how that connects to sales. I am opening my calendar to my newsletter readers to directly book some time with me. We can work through this stuff together.
