Weekly Alluviance #113: Always Be Closing? Nah, That’s Desperate

Your weekly dose of Alluviance!
Picture this: I’m on my fifth follow-up call, voice trashed, begging this prospect to sign. My quota’s toast, and I’m clutching the “always be closing” mantra like it’s gonna save me.
They ghosted me. Hard.
That’s when it hit: desperation’s a deal-killer. Chasing’s for suckers.
I used to think sales was all about more. More calls, more emails, and the dreaded "just following up" 🤮
Prospects smell that needy stink and bounce. Every “no” stings worse, and you’re just a burned-out mess chasing ghosts. Screw that.
So I stopped. I stopped bowing to prospects like they’re royalty.
"This is what I bring to the table. Weirdness and all." And from there, authentic conversation and connection would happen. Or it wouldn't. And I could walk away cleanly. No more posturing, no more pretending, no more forcing. I owned my value and didn’t put them on a pedestal.
After that ghosting fiasco, I learned that letting go beats clawing every time.
“Always be closing” is desperate noise. Leave it all on the table and then walk away like you've got nothing to prove.
