Weekly Alluviance #56: The Antidote for not yet being "good enough"

YOUR WEEKLY DOSE OF ALLUVIANCE!

I wrote about this yesterday on LinkedIn and want to dig into it deeper here with all of you...

It's involves stressing around hitting quota, waiting to be "good enough," and an ancient proverb. And I'll tell you what, this is exactly what I need to hear and write today, so I'm guessing it's going to land with many of you as well.

There was a warrior chieftain who was known far and wide for his military victories and expanding his empire. He was told since childhood that he was destined for great things. Battle after battle, he would defeat his enemies and each victory would fuel the desire for the next conquest. One day, a wise sage asked the chieftain when would he have enough. The chieftain replied, "I don't want to conquer all of the land in the world -- only all of the land next to mine."

I'm here to tell you (me) today: don't be that chieftain. You don't need to be the wise sage to know that things didn't end well for our victory-seeking warrior chief.

There's a part of me that's always thought if I {fill in the blank}...

  • Hit my #'s

  • Get promoted

  • Increase my followers

  • Have more $$ in my bank account

... then, and FINALLY then, I will be good enough.

I was that chieftain.

Success and being "good enough" was always some future, unattainable goal. Chasing bigger bonuses, the next promotion, the list goes on. Happiness was based on external factors and other people's scorecards.

I am realizing that I am good enough right now. Whether I hit my goals for Alluviance this year, whether our newsletter subscribers and followers go up or down, or whatever number happens to be in my bank account, I am good enough.

But it's not just about accepting things the way they are and being passive about our results. I've found these 4 things really help in regards to the inner game when looking through the perspective of enough:

  1. Learning to MASTER something

  2. Finding something to be passionate about that is bigger than ourselves

  3. Surrounding ourselves with bad a$$ people

  4. Allowing our "weird" to come out - and owning it!

When those four things are online, any doubts about being enough go away. This is exactly what we'll be focusing on during the Arise Immersion with almost 70 people in San Diego for 3 days this weekend. I can't wait. Our team is so ready. And if we won't see you at this one, then I hope we'll see you at a future event!

2. Featured LinkedIn Post:

"Where does trust come from?"

People don't buy from people they like.

People buy from people they TRUST can get them the best results.

In sales trust comes from 4 things (#4 is the most important IMO):

3. Quote to fuel your Alluviance:

"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting." – E.E. Cummings

Cheers to being enough 🍻 Exactly as you are right now!
