Weekly Alluviance #85: Leading Yourself: A Third Person Look In The Mirror
Our theme for the month of September is all around personal development and growth as a leader. If you missed our first post, this is worth going back to check out: Plotting Your Personal Development Course.
This week we're taking a step back and zooming out a little further.
Here’s the thing: before you can lead anyone else, you have to lead yourself. But what does that even mean?
Leading yourself is not just about setting goals or showing up for the day-to-day grind. It’s about getting into the habit of seeing yourself from a third-person perspective. Imagine stepping outside of your body for a moment and watching how you move through the world: the decisions you make, how you react under pressure, the habits you reinforce, and even how you speak to yourself.
Ask yourself: Is this person, the one I’m observing, acting in alignment with the goals I’ve set? Is this version of me showing up as the leader I need to become in order to achieve the vision I’ve laid out for myself? Or are there areas where I'm falling short, settling, or avoiding the hard stuff?
Most people never take the time to honestly assess themselves this way. And I get it. It’s uncomfortable. It’s way easier to focus on external targets and external leadership. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: self-leadership is the foundation of all other leadership.
When you step into the role of leading yourself, you create a foundation of integrity, consistency, and growth. You begin to close the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. It’s a continual practice, and one that requires honesty, courage, and commitment.
So, what’s the next step for you? I'm inviting you to literally step in front of the mirror and take a good, solid look at what's looking back at you.

Balancing Doing and Being in Sales and Leadership with Chris Caldwell
Chris Caldwell talks about the balance between doing and being in sales and leadership. They discuss how knowing the right sales tactics isn’t enough if you’re not fully present and aligned with who you need to be. Chris shares his journey of realizing that his beliefs and mindset were holding him back, even when he knew exactly what to do. Together, he and Alex explore the importance of staying grounded, the power of presence in building authentic connections, and how stepping into discomfort can lead to greater success, both personally and professionally.
