Weekly Alluviance #98: The Hero's Journey of a Sales Professional
Your weekly dose of Alluviance!
Two weeks ago, we broke from our usual newsletter format to talk about The Warrior Poet, inspired by Gladiator 2 crushing the box office. I know this one hit home for many of you. The balance of strength and thoughtfulness, action and compassion. It’s a timeless model for leadership and life as it reflects something universal: the desire for a life of meaning, impact, and integrity.
But this week, we’re shifting the spotlight from mythos to your journey. Specifically, the Hero’s Journey of a Sales Professional who’s searching for not just success, but purpose and growth.
Every hero begins in the ordinary world. For many of us, that’s the moment we stumbled into sales. Perhaps not by design, but by chance. Maybe you took that first role because it was available or someone said, “You’d be good at this.” At first, the focus is survival: make the calls, hit the quota, keep your head above water.
Then, something changes. You close a deal that feels different. You connect with someone in a way that’s meaningful. You start to realize sales isn’t just a grind. It’s a craft. This is your call to adventure: the moment you realize sales is about more than numbers. It’s about perseverance, connection, and influence.
But like any journey worth taking, the road is full of trials. The rejection. The late nights. The creeping doubt when a market feels unbreakable. And for some, the hardest trial of all: the gnawing question... Is this all there is?
This is where every hero faces a fork in the road. One path leads to burnout, detachment, and a sense of purposelessness. A slow grind into stagnation. The other path? It’s where the true journey begins. It’s no longer about just proving you can slay dragons or collect bigger paychecks. It’s about connecting to something bigger than yourself. It’s about finding purpose in what you do and using your work as a platform for growth and impact.
That’s the moment when everything changes. And it’s why Alluviance exists. Years ago, I found myself standing at that same fork in the road -- lost, disconnected, and unsure of what was next. What changed everything for me was discovering community and purpose. Today, through immersive experiences, we help sales professionals unlock those answers for themselves. People leave these events realizing they’re not at the end of their career arc. They’re at the beginning of the beginning.
If you’re standing at that fork in the road, unsure of what comes next, let’s talk. Book time on my calendar right now. It’s not too early to think about stepping into one of our 2025 immersions and reigniting your journey. Because finding clarity isn’t about waiting. It’s about starting.
